How to Use This Tool

1

Upload Your Images

Click the upload area to pick files, drag and drop them in, or paste a screenshot from your clipboard with Ctrl+V. Add up to 10 images at once — JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and more — up to 25 MB per file and 100 MB in total.

2

Compress

Click Compress or Compress All. Each image is optimized automatically — there are no quality sliders to fiddle with. A spinner on every thumbnail shows progress as files are processed one by one.

3

Review Results

Every thumbnail shows the original size, the new size, and the percentage saved. If compressing an image would actually make it larger, the original is kept untouched so you never end up with a bigger file.

4

Download

Download a single compressed image with one click, or grab everything as a ZIP archive when you have more than one file. Output files are named with a -compressed suffix so they are easy to spot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this tool really free?

Yes, completely free with no limits, no sign-up, and no watermarks. Everything runs in your browser — there are no server costs, so there is nothing to charge for.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Your images never leave your device. All compression happens directly in your browser. No server uploads, no external calls, 100% private.

Will I lose quality when compressing?

The tool is tuned to keep the result visually identical to the original. JPEG and WebP photos use lossy compression at carefully chosen settings, and PNG files are tested at several palette sizes so the smallest version that still looks great is picked automatically. Side by side, you typically can't tell the difference.

Can I choose the quality level myself?

No — and that is on purpose. The tool automatically tries multiple settings for every image and picks the smallest file that still looks good. There is nothing to tweak, so you get the best result without guessing.

What image formats are supported?

You can upload JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and BMP images, and many browsers also handle TIFF, AVIF, and SVG. JPEG comes back as JPEG, PNG as PNG, WebP as WebP, and other formats are saved as a compressed JPEG.

Why didn't my file get any smaller?

If compressing an image would actually produce a larger file, the tool keeps your original instead. This happens with photos that are already well optimized, very small images, or screenshots that are already lean. You will see 0% saved on those thumbnails.

How many images can I compress at once?

Up to 10 images per batch, with a 25 MB limit per file and 100 MB across all of them. Click Compress All to process the whole batch in one go.

Is the metadata in my photos kept?

No. The compression process removes EXIF metadata such as camera model, GPS location, capture date, and orientation. This is great for privacy when sharing photos online — but if you need that data, back it up before compressing.

Will my work be saved if I refresh or close the tab?

Yes. Your uploaded images and compressed results are automatically saved on your device, so coming back later or refreshing the page restores everything exactly as you left it. Use Clear All when you want to wipe the slate clean.

Does it work on mobile devices?

Yes, the tool works on modern mobile browsers. Compression may be slower on older phones since everything runs locally on your device, but it still works without uploading anything.

What Is Image Compressor?

Image Compressor is a free tool that shrinks JPEG, PNG, and WebP photos so they take up less space and load faster — without you having to pick quality settings. It tries several optimization passes for every image and picks the smallest result that still looks visually identical to the original, no server uploads, no external calls, 100% private.

Compress up to 10 images at a time, compare original and new sizes side by side on every thumbnail, and download files one by one or all together as a ZIP. Your work is saved automatically on your device, so you can refresh or come back later and pick up exactly where you left off.

Features Explained

Automatic Quality Tuning

Every image is tested at several optimization levels and the smallest version that still looks visually identical to the original is picked for you. There are no sliders or settings to tweak — just upload and compress.

JPEG, PNG & WebP Output

JPEG photos are saved as JPEG, PNG graphics as PNG, and WebP images as WebP. Other formats like GIF and BMP are saved as a compressed JPEG, which usually gives the best size for those files.

100% Browser-Based Processing

All compression happens directly in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to any server and no third-party services touch them. Complete privacy for every file you process.

Batch Compression

Drop in up to 10 images at once and compress the whole batch in a single click. Each thumbnail has its own progress spinner and shows its own savings, and a failed file never stops the rest.

Smart Size Check

If compressing an image would actually make it larger, the tool keeps your original instead. You never end up with a bigger file than you started with — even if the source was already well optimized.

Before & After Size Display

Every thumbnail shows the original size, the new size, and the percentage saved at a glance. The header also rolls everything up into a total saved across the entire batch.

Single File or ZIP Download

Download a single compressed image directly, or grab everything as a ZIP archive when you have more than one file. Files are named with a -compressed suffix so you always know which is which.

Drag, Drop & Paste

Drop image files straight from your file explorer, click to browse, or press Ctrl+V to paste a screenshot directly from your clipboard. The drop area highlights when a file is dragged over it.

Auto-Saved Across Refreshes

Your uploaded images and compressed results are saved on your device automatically, so refreshing the page or coming back later restores everything. Click Clear All when you want to wipe everything out.

Tips for Best Results

Photos shrink the most

Camera and phone photos in JPEG usually see the biggest savings, often dropping to a fraction of the original size while looking the same to the eye.

Use PNG for graphics and screenshots

If your image has transparency, sharp edges, text, or flat colors, keep it as PNG. The tool will still shrink it without breaking transparency.

Resize huge images first

Compression works on the pixels you have. If a photo is 4000 pixels wide but will display at 800, resize it first with our Image Resizer tool — you will get a much smaller file than compression alone.

Watch the percentage saved

Each thumbnail shows how much was saved. A small number (or 0%) means the image was already well optimized — that is normal, not a bug.

Compress in batches

Drop in up to 10 images at a time and click Compress All. Grab the whole batch in one ZIP when you are done — no need to download files one by one.

You will never get a bigger file

If compressing would actually grow a file, the tool keeps the original instead. You can compress with confidence even on already-optimized images.

Paste screenshots directly

Press Ctrl+V to paste a screenshot straight from your clipboard. There is no need to save it to a file first — just copy, paste, and compress.

Animated GIFs become a single frame

GIFs are accepted, but only the first frame is processed. If you need to keep an animation, do not compress it here.

Compress before uploading anywhere

Most websites and apps serve images exactly as you upload them. Compressing first means every visitor gets the smaller, faster version automatically.

Privacy is built in

Camera info, GPS coordinates, capture date, and other metadata are removed during compression — handy when you share photos publicly and want to keep that info private.

Privacy & Security

This tool runs 100% in your browser. Your files stay entirely on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is shared, and no server, advertiser, or third party has access to your files.

If a tool saves your work on your own device, you can remove it at any time using the Clear All button. Some tools rely on an external service to return their result; in those cases, only the minimum data required for the request is sent, and never your files or content. Any ads shown on this page run in an isolated frame and cannot read, touch, or transmit anything you upload, paste, type, or download here. Advertisers may see standard visit information like your IP address and which page you're on, as described in our Privacy Policy, but your data itself stays fully under your control.
