Frequently Asked Questions

Is this tool really free?

Yes, completely free with no limits, no sign-up, and no watermarks. Everything runs in your browser, so there are no server costs and nothing to charge for.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Your images never leave your device. All resizing happens directly in your browser. No server uploads, no external calls, 100% private.

Will resizing reduce my image quality?

Shrinking an image generally keeps it looking sharp. Enlarging beyond the original size will look softer, because the extra pixels have to be filled in. For the best result, resize to smaller dimensions and pick PNG for lossless output, or JPEG/WebP at a quality of 85 or above.

What resize modes are available?

Four: Pixels (type the exact width and height you want), Percentage (scale by a percentage of the original), Preset (pick from 18 ready-made sizes for social media and standard formats), and Target File Size (enter the size in KB and the tool finds the best quality automatically). You can also pick how the image fits the new size: Stretch, Fit (with a background color), or Cover and crop.

What is the maximum file size?

Up to 50 MB per image. In single mode you resize one image at a time. In Batch mode you can add as many images as you like and download them all in one ZIP, as long as each one is under 50 MB.

Which presets are included?

18 popular sizes: Instagram Post (1080x1080), Instagram Story (1080x1920), Facebook Post (1200x630), Facebook Cover (820x312), Twitter Post (1200x675), Twitter Header (1500x500), YouTube Thumbnail (1280x720), YouTube Banner (2560x1440), LinkedIn Post (1200x627), LinkedIn Cover (1584x396), Pinterest Pin (1000x1500), WhatsApp DP (500x500), HD 720p (1280x720), Full HD 1080p (1920x1080), 4K 2160p (3840x2160), Passport Photo (600x600), A4 at 300 DPI (2480x3508), and Favicon (32x32).

How does Target File Size mode work?

Enter a target size in KB and the tool tries several quality levels automatically until the result lands within about 5% of your target. It is the easiest way to fit an image under an upload or attachment limit without guessing.

Can I rotate and flip images?

Yes. Rotate 90 degrees left or right, and flip horizontally or vertically. Transforms appear instantly in the live preview and are baked into the final image when you download.

What output formats are supported?

You can save the result as PNG (lossless, larger), JPEG (smaller, with a quality slider), or WebP (modern format, usually the smallest, also with a quality slider). BMP and GIF are accepted as input only and are saved out as one of these three.

Will my work be saved if I refresh or close the tab?

Yes. Your uploaded image and all your settings are automatically saved on your device, so refreshing the page or coming back later restores everything exactly as you left it. Click Clear All to wipe the saved state.

What Is Image Resizer?

Image Resizer is a free tool that lets you resize, rotate, flip, and convert images right in your browser. Set the new dimensions in pixels or as a percentage, pick a social media preset, or enter a target file size in KB, then download the result as PNG, JPEG, or WebP. No server uploads, no external calls, 100% private.

A live preview shows exactly how the result will look as you tweak settings. Use single mode for one image at a time with full controls, or switch to Batch mode to resize many images with the same settings and download them together in one ZIP. Your work is saved on your device, so you can refresh or come back later and pick up exactly where you left off.

Features Explained

Four Resize Modes

Resize by exact pixels, by a percentage of the original, by picking from 18 social media and standard presets, or by setting a target file size in KB and letting the tool find the right quality automatically.

Three Fit Methods

Stretch fills the exact dimensions and may distort the image. Fit scales the image to fit inside the new size and adds a background color of your choice for any empty space. Cover scales the image to fill the new size completely, cropping any overflow.

Aspect Ratio Lock

When the lock is on, changing the width updates the height (and vice versa) so your image keeps its original proportions. Turn it off when you want exact custom dimensions.

Rotate and Flip

Rotate 90 degrees left or right and flip horizontally or vertically. Transforms show up immediately in the live preview and are baked into the final image when you download.

Format Conversion

Save your image as PNG (lossless, larger), JPEG (smaller, with a quality slider), or WebP (usually smallest, also with a quality slider). PNG and WebP keep transparency; JPEG does not.

Batch Processing

Switch to the Batch tab to resize many images with identical settings in one go. The tool packages every result into a single ZIP file for download, and skips any file that fails to decode so the rest of the batch keeps going.

Live Preview with Size Badge

The preview updates in real time as you change dimensions, fit method, rotation, or flipping, and a small badge shows the exact output width and height. After resizing, you also see how much smaller (or larger) the new file is compared to the original.

Drag, Drop and Paste

Drop an image straight from your file explorer, click to browse, or press Ctrl+V to paste a screenshot directly from your clipboard. The drop area highlights when a file is dragged over it.

Tips for Best Results

Shrink, do not enlarge

Resizing an image down keeps it looking sharp. Enlarging beyond the original size will look softer because new pixels have to be invented. Start with the largest source you have.

Pick WebP for the smallest file

WebP usually produces noticeably smaller files than JPEG at the same visual quality, and it keeps transparency too. Pick WebP from the format dropdown for the best size savings.

Keep aspect ratio locked

Leaving the lock on prevents your image from being stretched or squished. The other dimension is calculated automatically. Only turn it off when you need exact custom dimensions.

Use Target File Size for upload limits

Many email and upload forms cap file sizes. Switch to Target File Size mode, type the limit in KB, and let the tool find the right quality automatically.

Use presets for social posts

Preset mode covers 18 ready-made sizes for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, WhatsApp, plus HD, Full HD, 4K, A4 at 300 DPI, and a passport photo.

Use Fit mode for fixed canvas sizes

When you need an exact canvas like 1080x1080 but your image is a different shape, Fit mode adds a background color of your choice around the image instead of cropping or stretching it.

Use Cover mode for thumbnails

Cover mode fills the exact dimensions by scaling up and cropping the overflow, which is perfect for thumbnails and profile pictures where you want the whole frame filled.

Batch for consistency

When prepping images for a website or campaign, use the Batch tab to resize many files with identical settings in one go. Grab them all in a single ZIP.

Paste screenshots directly

Press Ctrl+V to paste a screenshot straight from your clipboard. There is no need to save it to a file first.

Privacy is built in

Camera details, GPS coordinates, capture date, and other personal metadata are removed during resizing, which is handy when you share photos publicly and want to keep that information private.

Privacy & Security

This tool runs 100% in your browser. Your files stay entirely on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is shared, and no server, advertiser, or third party has access to your files.

If a tool saves your work on your own device, you can remove it at any time using the Clear All button. Some tools rely on an external service to return their result; in those cases, only the minimum data required for the request is sent, and never your files or content. Any ads shown on this page run in an isolated frame and cannot read, touch, or transmit anything you upload, paste, type, or download here. Advertisers may see standard visit information like your IP address and which page you're on, as described in our Privacy Policy, but your data itself stays fully under your control.
