Frequently Asked Questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs 100% in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded anywhere. All analysis - metadata extraction, text statistics, and page rendering - happens entirely on your device.

What metadata does this tool extract?

Title, author, subject, keywords, creator application, PDF producer, PDF version, creation date, modification date, page dimensions with standard size detection (A3, A4, A5, Letter, Legal, Tabloid), and encryption status.

What text statistics are reported?

Page count, word count, character count (with and without spaces), sentence count, paragraph count, and whether tabular data was detected in the content.

Why are the text statistics showing zero?

Your PDF is likely a scanned document (images of text, not actual text). This tool reads the embedded text layer - scanned PDFs without OCR have no text layer. Use the PDF to Text tool with OCR to extract text from scanned documents.

Can I analyze encrypted PDFs?

The tool detects and reports encryption status. Some encrypted PDFs can be analyzed if they allow reading. PDFs that require a password to open may not be analyzable.

How does page size detection work?

The tool reads the first page dimensions and matches them against standard paper sizes (A3, A4, A5, Letter, Legal, Tabloid) with a tolerance of 5 points. It also reports whether the page is Portrait or Landscape.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no hard file size limit. The practical limit depends on your browser's available memory. Large PDFs (100+ MB) may take longer to render the preview.

Can I export the analysis data?

Yes. Click Export CSV to download all metadata and text statistics as a CSV file. The export includes filename, size, page count, all text stats, and all metadata fields.

What Is a PDF Analyzer?

A PDF analyzer reads the internal structure of a PDF file and extracts detailed information including page count, document metadata, and text statistics. Upload a PDF to instantly preview its contents and get a full breakdown. This tool runs 100% in your browser - your files are never uploaded to any server.

It supports drag-and-drop upload, in-browser PDF preview, metadata extraction (title, author, version, dates, page size, encryption status), text statistics (words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, table detection), and CSV export of all analysis data.

Features Explained

In-Browser PDF Preview

The tool renders every page of your PDF directly in your browser. You can scroll through the full document without leaving the page.

Document Metadata Extraction

Extracts and displays comprehensive PDF metadata: document title, author, subject, keywords, creator application, PDF producer, PDF version, creation and modification dates, page dimensions with standard size detection (A4, Letter, etc.), and encryption status.

Text Statistics

Analyzes all text content in the PDF and reports word count, character count (with and without spaces), sentence count, paragraph count, and whether tabular data was detected.

CSV Export

Export all analysis data - metadata and text statistics - as a CSV file. Includes 16 fields: filename, size, pages, words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, tables detected, PDF version, title, author, creator, producer, dates, page size, and encryption status.

Drag-and-Drop Upload

Drag a PDF file from your file explorer and drop it onto the input area. The drop zone highlights when a file is dragged over it.

Standard Page Size Detection

Automatically identifies standard page sizes like A3, A4, A5, Letter, Legal, and Tabloid, and reports the orientation (Portrait or Landscape).

Encryption Detection

Reports whether the PDF is encrypted or password-protected. Some encrypted PDFs may not be analyzable without the password.

Tips for Analyzing PDFs

Drag and drop for speed

Drag a PDF directly from your file explorer onto the input area for the fastest upload experience.

Scroll the preview

Multi-page PDFs render all pages in the input area. Scroll within the panel to view every page.

Check encrypted PDFs

Some password-protected PDFs cannot be analyzed without the password. Try opening and re-saving the file without protection.

Review text statistics

Word, sentence, and paragraph counts are extracted from the PDF text layer. Scanned PDFs without OCR may show zero counts.

Export to CSV for records

Click Export CSV to download all metadata and statistics. Useful for tracking document properties across multiple files.

Check page size and orientation

The tool detects standard sizes (A3, A4, Letter, etc.) and reports Portrait or Landscape. Useful for verifying print settings.

Verify authorship metadata

Check the Author, Creator, and Producer fields to verify who created the document and with what software.

Check creation and modification dates

The Created and Modified dates show when the PDF was originally created and last edited. Useful for document verification.

Table detection is a heuristic

The tool detects tabular data by looking for lines with multiple columns separated by tabs or spaces. It's a best-effort detection, not guaranteed.

Zero word count means scanned PDF

If all text statistics show zero, the PDF is likely a scanned image. Use the PDF to Text tool with OCR to extract text.
