Frequently Asked Questions

What watermark settings are available?

You can customize the watermark text, position (top-left, top-right, center, bottom-left, bottom-right), font size (12-200px), opacity (5-100%), and color (any hex color). The font is bold sans-serif.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs 100% in your browser. Your images never leave your device. All watermarking happens locally using the Canvas API. No data is transmitted.

What is the maximum file size?

The maximum file size is 25 MB. The tool supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, and GIF input formats.

What output format is used?

Watermarked images are saved as PNG (lossless). This ensures the watermark text is rendered crisply without compression artifacts.

Can I preview before applying?

The current preview shows the original image. Click Apply Watermark to see the watermarked result. Click Back to Edit to adjust settings and apply again.

Does this tool strip EXIF data?

Yes. The watermarking process re-renders the image through a canvas element, which removes EXIF metadata (camera settings, GPS, date) from the output.

Can I change the font?

The font is currently set to bold sans-serif and is not user-configurable. The font size, color, and opacity are fully adjustable.

What does Reset do?

Reset returns all watermark settings to their defaults (text: 'Watermark', position: center, font size: 48px, opacity: 50%, color: white) and clears any applied result. The image stays loaded.

Can I paste images from my clipboard?

Yes. Press Ctrl+V to paste an image directly from your clipboard — screenshots, copied images from browsers, or images from design tools.

Can I add multiple watermarks?

This tool adds one watermark per application. To add multiple watermarks, apply the first, download the result, upload it again, and apply the second watermark with different settings.

What Is Image Watermark Tool?

Image Watermark Tool is a free browser-based tool that lets you add custom text watermarks to any image. Set the text, position, font size, opacity, and color, then download the watermarked result as a lossless PNG.

Everything runs 100% in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to any server. The tool uses the Canvas API to render watermarks locally on your device.

Features Explained

Custom Watermark Text

Enter any text for your watermark. The text is rendered in bold sans-serif at the font size you choose. Use your name, brand, copyright notice, or any custom message.

5 Position Presets

Place the watermark at top-left, top-right, center, bottom-left, or bottom-right. Each position includes 20px padding from the edges for a clean look.

Adjustable Font Size

Control the watermark text size from 12px to 200px using the slider. Larger sizes are more visible and harder to remove. Smaller sizes are more subtle.

Opacity Control

Set watermark opacity from 5% (barely visible) to 100% (fully opaque). Lower opacity lets the image show through the text. The default 50% balances visibility with subtlety.

Color Picker

Choose any color for the watermark text using the color picker. White (default) works well on dark images, black on light images. Use your brand color for branded watermarks.

PNG Output

Watermarked images are exported as lossless PNG files. This ensures the watermark text is rendered crisply without compression artifacts blurring the text.

Drag and Drop & Clipboard Paste

Drag any image file onto the tool or press Ctrl+V to paste from clipboard. Supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, and GIF formats up to 25 MB.

EXIF Metadata Stripping

Watermarked images automatically have EXIF metadata (camera settings, GPS coordinates, date, orientation) removed during canvas rendering. This protects your privacy.

Tips for Watermarking Images

Use white text on dark images

White watermarks (default) are most visible on photographs and dark backgrounds. Switch to black or dark colors for light-colored images.

Set opacity to 30-50% for subtlety

Lower opacity lets the image show through the watermark. 30-50% is ideal for portfolio previews — visible enough to deter theft but subtle enough to not ruin the image.

Use center position for maximum protection

Center placement makes the watermark hardest to crop out. Corner placements are easier to remove by simply cropping the image.

Use larger font sizes for better protection

Larger watermarks (100-200px) cover more of the image and are harder to remove with editing tools. Smaller sizes are more aesthetic but less protective.

Add copyright text

Use text like '© 2024 Your Name' or '© YourBrand.com' for professional copyright watermarks. This establishes ownership clearly.

Use 'PROOF' for client previews

When sharing work with clients before payment, use 'PROOF' or 'SAMPLE' as the watermark text. Remove it only after final approval and payment.

Match your brand color

Use the color picker to set the watermark to your brand color. This turns the watermark into subtle branding rather than just protection.

Paste screenshots directly

Press Ctrl+V to paste a screenshot from your clipboard. Add a watermark and download — the fastest way to watermark a screenshot.

Use Reset to start fresh

Click Reset to return all watermark settings to defaults without removing the loaded image. Useful when you want to try a completely different watermark style.

Output is always PNG

The watermarked image is saved as a lossless PNG. This preserves the watermark text quality — JPEG compression would blur the text edges.
