Frequently Asked Questions
What rotation angles are available?
▼
Four angles: 0° (original), 90° (quarter turn clockwise), 180° (half turn), and 270° (quarter turn counterclockwise). Select any angle and the preview updates instantly.
Can I flip and rotate at the same time?
▼
Yes. Rotation and flip are independent. You can combine any rotation angle with horizontal flip, vertical flip, or both. All transforms are applied together.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
▼
No. This tool runs 100% in your browser. Your images never leave your device. All rotation and flipping happens locally using the Canvas API. No data is transmitted.
What is the maximum file size?
▼
The maximum file size is 25 MB. The tool supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, and GIF input formats.
What output format is used?
▼
Rotated and flipped images are saved as PNG (lossless). This ensures no quality loss from the transformation process.
Does rotating change image dimensions?
▼
Rotating by 90° or 270° swaps the width and height. A 1920×1080 image becomes 1080×1920. Rotating by 0° or 180° keeps the original dimensions.
Does this tool strip EXIF data?
▼
Yes. The transformation re-renders the image through a canvas element, which removes EXIF metadata (camera settings, GPS, date, orientation) from the output.
Can I preview before applying?
▼
Yes. The image shows a live preview with a smooth CSS transition as you change rotation and flip settings. Click Apply to render the final full-resolution result.
What does Reset do?
▼
Reset returns rotation to 0° and turns off both flips, restoring the image to its original orientation. It also clears any applied result. The image stays loaded — only the transform controls are reset.
Can I paste images from my clipboard?
▼
Yes. Press Ctrl+V to paste an image directly from your clipboard — screenshots, copied images from browsers, or images from design tools.
What Is Image Rotate & Flip?
Image Rotate & Flip is a free browser-based tool that lets you rotate images by 0°, 90°, 180°, or 270° and flip them horizontally or vertically. Preview changes live with smooth transitions, then download the result as a lossless PNG.
Everything runs 100% in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to any server. The tool uses the Canvas API to apply transformations locally on your device.
Features Explained
4 Rotation Angles
▼
Choose from 0° (original), 90° (quarter turn clockwise), 180° (upside down), or 270° (quarter turn counterclockwise). The preview updates instantly with a smooth CSS transition.
Flip Horizontally & Vertically
▼
Mirror your image left-to-right (Flip Horizontally) or top-to-bottom (Flip Vertically). Both flips can be combined with any rotation angle for 8 possible orientations.
Live Preview
▼
All rotation and flip changes are previewed instantly on the image with a smooth 0.3-second CSS transition. See exactly how the image will look before clicking Apply.
Full-Resolution Output
▼
The Apply button renders the transformation at the image's original full resolution using the Canvas API. No downscaling or quality loss — the output matches the input resolution exactly.
PNG Output
▼
Transformed images are exported as lossless PNG files. This ensures pixel-perfect quality with no compression artifacts from the rotation or flip operation.
Drag and Drop
▼
Drag any image file from your desktop or file manager directly onto the tool. Supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, and GIF formats up to 25 MB.
Clipboard Paste
▼
Press Ctrl+V to paste an image directly from your clipboard — screenshots, copied images from browsers, or images from design tools. No need to save to a file first.
EXIF Metadata Stripping
▼
Transformed images automatically have EXIF metadata (camera settings, GPS coordinates, date, orientation) removed during canvas rendering. This protects your privacy when sharing images online.

Tips for Rotating & Flipping Images
Use 90° for sideways photos
If a photo from your phone or camera appears sideways, select 90° or 270° to rotate it to the correct orientation. The preview shows the result instantly.
Combine rotation and flip
You can apply both rotation and flip at the same time. For example, rotate 90° and flip horizontally to get a specific orientation that neither alone would achieve.
Use flip for mirror effects
Flip Horizontally creates a mirror image — useful for before/after comparisons, creative compositions, and matching directional layouts.
Use flip for iron-on transfers
When printing designs for iron-on transfers or reverse printing, use Flip Horizontally to mirror the image so it appears correct when transferred.
Preview before applying
The live preview shows exactly how the image will look with a smooth transition. Take time to try different combinations before clicking Apply.
90° and 270° swap dimensions
Rotating by 90° or 270° swaps width and height. A landscape photo (1920×1080) becomes portrait (1080×1920). Check the output dimensions in the label after applying.
Paste screenshots directly
Press Ctrl+V to paste a screenshot from your clipboard. Rotate or flip it and download — the fastest way to fix a screenshot's orientation.
EXIF orientation is stripped
The output PNG has no EXIF orientation tag, so it will display correctly everywhere. This fixes the common issue where photos appear rotated in some apps but not others.
Use Back to Edit to adjust
After clicking Apply, you can click Back to Edit to return to the preview with your settings preserved. Adjust rotation or flip and apply again without re-uploading.
Output is always PNG
The transformed image is saved as a lossless PNG regardless of the input format. This ensures no quality loss from the rotation or flip operation.
