Frequently Asked Questions

What filters are available?

16 filters in 4 groups. Color: Brightness (0-200%), Contrast (0-200%), Saturation (0-200%), Hue Rotate (0-360°). Effects: Grayscale (0-100%), Sepia (0-100%), Invert (0-100%), Opacity (0-100%). Detail: Sharpen (0-100%), Blur (0-20px), Emboss (0-100%), Edge Detect (0-100%). Stylize: Noise (0-100%), Posterize (0-100%), Threshold (0-100%), Vignette (0-100%). All filters can be combined.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs 100% in your browser. Your images never leave your device. All filter processing happens locally using the Canvas API. No data is transmitted.

What is the maximum file size?

The maximum file size is 25 MB. The tool supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, and GIF input formats.

What output format is used?

Filtered images are saved as PNG (lossless). This ensures no additional quality loss from the filter application process.

Can I preview filters before applying?

Yes. All 16 filters preview live as you move sliders. The image updates instantly so you can see exactly how each filter affects the image before clicking Apply Filters.

Can I go back and adjust after applying?

Yes. Click Back to Edit to return to the live preview with your filter settings preserved. You can adjust sliders and apply again without re-uploading the image.

Does this tool strip EXIF data?

Yes. The filter application re-renders the image through a canvas element, which removes EXIF metadata (camera settings, GPS, date) from the output.

Can I apply multiple filters at once?

Yes. All 16 filters are applied simultaneously. CSS-based filters (brightness, contrast, saturation, etc.) are applied first, then pixel-manipulation filters (sharpen, emboss, noise, etc.) are layered on top. You can combine any filters in any combination.

What does Reset Filters do?

Reset Filters returns all 16 sliders to their default values and clears any applied result, returning to the unfiltered image. Color filters reset to Brightness 100%, Contrast 100%, Saturation 100%, Hue Rotate 0°. All other filters reset to 0. Opacity resets to 100%. The image itself is preserved.

Can I paste images from my clipboard?

Yes. Press Ctrl+V to paste an image directly from your clipboard — screenshots, copied images from browsers, or images from design tools.

What Is Image Filters?

Image Filters is a free browser-based tool with 16 adjustable filters organized in 4 groups — Color, Effects, Detail, and Stylize. Apply brightness, contrast, saturation, grayscale, sepia, blur, hue rotation, invert, opacity, sharpen, emboss, edge detect, noise, posterize, threshold, and vignette with real-time preview, then download the filtered result as a PNG.

Everything runs 100% in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to any server. The tool uses the Canvas API to apply CSS-style filters locally on your device.

Features Explained

16 Filters in 4 Groups

Filters are organized into Color (brightness, contrast, saturation, hue rotate), Effects (grayscale, sepia, invert, opacity), Detail (sharpen, blur, emboss, edge detect), and Stylize (noise, posterize, threshold, vignette). All 16 can be combined for complex effects.

Live Filter Preview

All 16 filters preview in real time as you move sliders. The tool renders CSS filters and pixel-manipulation filters together on a canvas, updating the preview instantly so you see the exact final result before clicking Apply Filters.

CSS Filters

9 filters use the browser's native CSS filter engine: Brightness (0-200%), Contrast (0-200%), Saturation (0-200%), Hue Rotate (0-360°), Grayscale (0-100%), Sepia (0-100%), Invert (0-100%), Opacity (0-100%), and Blur (0-20px).

Pixel Filters

7 filters use canvas pixel manipulation: Sharpen (convolution kernel), Emboss (3D surface effect), Edge Detect (highlights edges), Noise (film grain), Posterize (reduces color levels), Threshold (pure black and white), and Vignette (darkens corners).

Non-Destructive Editing

Filters are applied to a preview layer, not the original image. Click Back to Edit after applying to return and adjust further. The original image is preserved until you click Clear.

PNG Output

Filtered images are exported as lossless PNG files. This preserves the full quality of the filtered result without additional compression artifacts.

Drag and Drop & Clipboard Paste

Drag any image file onto the tool or press Ctrl+V to paste from clipboard. Supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, and GIF formats up to 25 MB.

Reset Filters

Click Reset Filters to return all 16 sliders to their default values without removing the loaded image. Useful when you want to start adjusting from scratch.

EXIF Metadata Stripping

Filtered images automatically have EXIF metadata (camera settings, GPS coordinates, date, orientation) removed during canvas rendering. This protects your privacy when sharing images online.

Tips for Using Image Filters

Start with brightness and contrast

Brightness and contrast are the most impactful adjustments. Start with these two sliders to set the overall tone, then fine-tune with saturation, sepia, and other filters.

Use grayscale for print

Set Grayscale to 100% to convert color images to black and white for print materials, documentation, or stylistic purposes. Adjust contrast afterward for better tonal range.

Create vintage effects with sepia

Set Sepia to 60-80% and slightly reduce Saturation for a warm, vintage photograph look. Add a small Brightness boost (110-120%) to complete the effect.

Use blur for background images

Apply Blur (3-8px) to create out-of-focus background images for websites, presentations, or UI mockups. Blurred backgrounds make foreground text easier to read.

Hue Rotate for color variations

Use Hue Rotate to shift all colors in the image. This is useful for creating color variations of the same graphic — try 90°, 180°, or 270° for dramatic shifts.

Combine filters for complex effects

All 16 filters work together. Combine high Contrast with low Saturation for a dramatic desaturated look, add Sharpen for detail, Vignette for focus, or Noise for film grain texture.

Use Reset Filters to start over

If your adjustments don't look right, click Reset Filters to return all sliders to their defaults without losing the loaded image. Start fresh with a clean slate.

Preview before applying

All 16 filters preview live on the image as you move sliders. Take time to adjust and see the exact result before clicking Apply Filters. You can always go Back to Edit afterward.

Paste screenshots directly

Press Ctrl+V to paste a screenshot from your clipboard. Apply filters and download — the fastest way to enhance a screenshot without saving it as a file first.

Use for consistent social media aesthetics

Note down your favorite slider values and apply the same settings to all images in a series. This creates a cohesive visual style across your social media feed.
